Drumlanrig Castle. Gardens of Scotland, In order to make it more visible from the Castle and Gardens, the first work carried out was to mark and fell the mostly self-seeded Birch, Hazel and Willow which obscured the view on to the bottom of the Cascade from the side of the Marrburn.

Elizabeth MacGregor's Nursery at Ellenbank. Classic cottage garden plants grown at Ellenbank are sent to keen gardeners and public gardens all over the UK and abroad. Woodfall, known as Galloway's "Secret Garden", is an atmospheric 18th Century walled garden. The walls and surrounding woodland provide shelter and give a sense of security, serenity and seclusion. Woodfall Gardens is situated near the village of Glasserton, in Galloway. The cottage and gardens were built on the orders of Admiral Keith Stewart, the second surviving son of the 6th Earl of Galloway, was given possession of the 2000 acres comprising the Barony of Glasserton in 1767. He built a new house, brought in English farm workers with all the new technology of the time, built a square of elegant farm buildings, and established the parklands, woodlands and garden. This new nursery and garden set in a delightful Victorian walled garden offers the visitor an exciting and unusual selection of specimen trees, shrubs and species rhododendron all grown on site from locally sourced seed and stock. With limited numbers of rare and hard to obtain specials this nursery is a must for the plant hunter and all those wanting that extra something to stand out from the crowd. Find everything from Abies balsamea (Balsam fir) to Ziziphus jujuba (jujube) not to mention 300 other species of trees, shrubs and perennial plants inc. Ardwell Gardens surround an 18th Century Country Estate House (which is not open to the public), with the formal layout of the house blending into the informality of the wood and shrubberies. Galloway House Gardens In early spring the gardens burst into life.  The snowdrops are first (more than 20 varieties), followed by daffodils, bluebells and the extensive collection of species rhododendra and azaleas.
